Providing a home for children in need is a on-going concern for the LFF Home for Children. The rewards from helping a child in need are immense. The case of a little girl who had travelled a long way to get some medical assistance, and who's health had suffered a great deal, clearly illustrates this point. Despite her health problems, the little girl concerned is one of the most optimistic humans on this earth. The LFF assures your donation goes directly to the children. When harvested, the home-grown produce will then be used in the meals prepared at the LFF Home for Children. The program teaches the children about the nature's cycle, the appreciation for nutrition, and the discipline of attending to daily duties. One of the effects of the worldwide economic crisis on Thailand is a growing number of children in need. Recent research has shown an increase in the number of neglected children in the Bangkok suburbs. One of the causes of this is the breakdown of healthy family structures. Many of the neglected children's parents have separated, or have migrated to the city for work. The children that have been left behind have little, or non-sufficient, care and out of desperation parents or family members are bringing or leaving the children at shelters such as the LFF Home for Children. The LFF carefully screens each case, and where possible, works with family members to find the best solution for each child.
In the course of the last couple of weeks the the LFF was proud to welcome two of the foundation's founders: Franz von Reding, Chanel Rufli; and and LFF patron Esther Rhomberg, to the Lard Bua Luang Home for Children project. The LFF managers Ajarn Deecha & Ajarn Nussara, together with LFF Home for Children's teacher Kru Yap, recently attended the Montessori Convention in Chiang Rai. The meeting was held to mark the first successful decade of the Chiang Rai Montessori school, and provided a wonderful forum for the exchange ideas and the sharing of experiences with likeminded people from across Thailand. Feedback from the LFF team was that the convention was very enriching. It was also of great benefit in building a greater understanding of the philosophy behind Montessori teaching. Two of the strong messages that came out of the convention were to reinforce the benefits to be gained from greater co-operation between projects, and to reinforce the great need to extend Montessori teaching to more shelters in Thailand.
The Lotus children were overjoyed to participate in the Lard Bua Luang Children's Day. Games were played, songs sung, and happy hours spent with other children from the community. To experience the joy of meeting and playing with other children, and being able to share moments of fun and laughter, is one of the essences of childhood that many take for granted. Being able to participate in the Lard Bua Luang Children's Day meant a great deal to our charges at the LFF Home for Children.
